Student of the Month: Madison

We love our students! They inspire us, they challenge us, they make us laugh and smile. But most importantly, they are each wonderful, unique individuals getting ready to go out into the world and make amazing things happen! That’s why we are highlighting one of our amazing students every month.

This month's featured student is Madison!

Madison is a natural born musician and belongs on the stage! She has been an enthusiastic member of her school's drama club for several years, performing in amazing musicals including Shrek the Musical, and Mary Poppins. Last fall she enjoyed her first lead role as Trudy Mitchell in her school's play This Murder was Staged, and this spring she will be making her debut as FDR in their production of Annie!

Madison enjoys music theory and composes the most brilliant things for her age including her own librettos, musical mash-ups, and character pieces. Recently her first album The Abstract Dimension dropped on all major streaming platforms - go check it out! Her inspirations include tons of musical theater as well as Huey Lewis and the News, and a multitude of other 80's bands.

Last fall Madison joined her school's choir and A Capella group where she enjoys singing alto and tenor and jamming with her friends. She also recently began studying guitar, enjoys the kazoo, loves to make art, and is self taught on the harmonica.

We are so glad that this multi-faceted young lady is a part of our Harmony Garden family and we can't wait to see what her future brings!

What do you enjoy most about music?

A: I’ve never thought about it. Music is a beautiful thing where emotions can be evoked by a simple sound. I have a profound appreciation for music.

Do you have a favorite musical memory?

I don’t have a single favorite - there’s so many to count! But my favorite days always involve musicals.

What’s your favorite song to sing?

The more I like a song, the more I like singing/playing it. That being said, my favorite song changes every few years, but “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen has always been up there.

What is a song you would like to learn?

I really want to learn “More than a Feeling” by Boston. I’ve been working on it on my own time, it’s very challenging.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

I want to be a stage actor, theater is my passion. I might also keep releasing music on the side.

What is your favorite color?

It’s always been green, and that’s recently expanded to include bluish greens, too. It’s a versatile and pleasant color.

What animal would you be, if you were not a human?

I know they’re not real, but the answer has always been a dragon.

If you could have any superpower what would it be?

Probably shapeshifting, then I could always look like how I want to, and it would make costume stuff easier, too!
