We love our students! They inspire us, they challenge us, they make us laugh and smile. But most importantly, they are each wonderful, unique individuals getting ready to go out into the world and make amazing things happen! That’s why we are highlighting one of our amazing students every month.
This month's featured student is Gwenny!
Gwenny and her younger brother, Alasdair, joined Kindermusik in the fall of 2017 after moving to the area. Even as a preschooler, Gwenny always had wonderful ideas to share and stories to tell. Her enthusiasm for music was apparent even then, and has only grown. Early in 2020, she began piano lessons. Despite a shift to online learning, she flourished and progressed quickly thanks to her strong practice routine and desire to learn more and more. Gwenny always works hard to get everything just right and is always eager to learn something new. Her fingers may still be small, but they are mighty: mastering dynamics and various articulations, and coaxing a mature sound from the instrument with ease. She has a passion for classical music and is branching out to explore music from other cultures, as well.
Gwenny may also just be our next student intern; she is a passionate helper and has over the years learned where everything is in the studio, including the office. Her current favorite administrative task is updating my desk calendar and being sure my scented wax warmer is full! For years I have joked that when she is a teenager she can work for Harmony, an offer she seems poised to take us up on in our interview. When not playing piano, she likes to hide under chairs in the lobby to try to scare me. It is a tradition I will secretly miss when she’s too tall to hide.
Q: What do you enjoy most about playing music?
A: It sounds good
Q: Do you have a favorite musical memory?
A: Today, when I started learning “Fur Elise!”
Q: What is your favorite song to play?
A: I don’t have a favorite. I like them all.
Q: What is a song you would like to learn to play?
A: Moonlight Sonata
Q: What do you want to be when you grow up?
A: A couple of things. A third grade teacher and an astronaut. But my first job would be helping Miss Rachel
Q: What is your favorite color?
A: Purple!
Q: What animal would you be, if you were not a human?
A: That’s the hardest question because I love all animals. But, a falcon, so I could fly around and eat any raw fish I want, not just sushi. It would be fun to fly.
Q: If you could have any superpower what would it be?
A: Invisibility, so I can sneak up on you and surprise you!
