Which Kindermusik Class is Best for My Child?

As you know, the first few years (or even months) of a child’s life just fly by. In fact, young children are growing and developing so fast that your little one is likely to have a whole new skill set just a week from now.

In Kindermusik, we recognize that a one year old is very different from a one-and-a-half year old, who is also very different from a three year old. By offering classes with narrow age ranges, we ensure a perfect-fit class for each child, with peers who are at the same developmental stage.

Not sure which class is best for your little music maker? Here’s a peek at how babies and children learn in each Kindermusik class and some of the milestones developed along the way.

Foundations (newborn - walking)

Nurture the precious bond between you and your baby or young toddler in a community that celebrates parenthood, childhood, and milestones big and small! Your child grows so much in the first two years, and in Kindermusik you’ll be an active witness to many beautiful transformations – from “squishy” stage to the “squirmy” stage, the “roly-poly” stage to the “creepy crawler” stage and beyond!*

Foundations focuses on strengthening that special bond between Baby and You! Kindermusik empowers you with tools and tricks and tips to be the best parent you can be. In class, we nurture your child’s beginning movement – helping build the muscles needed to roll, crawl, walk and run – and earliest communication skills – learning to “talk” with signs and exercise vocal muscles so they can talk up a storm someday soon!

In class, you and your child will enjoy instrument play, dances, exploration time, and together time – and you’ll get expert advice and parenting resources based on the most recent research in baby and early childhood development.

Babies who are about 18 months and moving confidently on their feet and able to communicate with gestures or limited words are ready to graduate to a Level 2 class!

(* these “stages” are borrowed from an excellent book on baby development, “Baby Bare” by Stephanie Johnson”)

Level 1 (walking - 2 years)

Your toddler is a big personality in a tiny body, with a giant world awaiting to be discovered! Delight in rediscovering the joys of life through their eyes as they become more and more like the wonderful selves they are each day.

Kindermusik Level 1 classes nurture your toddler’s emerging locomotor skills and expressive language as we walk, run, roll, sign, and explore all our voices can do. All the while, you’ll develop loving rituals to use at home that will empower you to be the best parent you can be.

In class, we nurture your child’s growing motor skills, learning to express ourselves with signs, and developing our speech muscles with delightful vocal play. You and your child will enjoy instrument play, dances, exploration time, and precious together time - and you’ll get expert advice and parenting resources based on the most cutting-edge research in early childhood development

Level 2 (2 - 3 years)

The tremendous twos are a time to be celebrated! Watch your little one's independence and self-esteem blossom as she explores her unique abilities and preferences, then runs back to you with pride for a reassuring hug!

Each week your child will love singing, dancing, and playing instruments with you and their new friends.

And you'll love helping them practice a wide variety of abilities such as gross and fine motor skills, turn-taking, social skills, and active listening. You’ll watch friendships blossom, even if taking turns or sharing is still difficult (this is actually a sign of maturation!). At the same time, we'll learn how to identify our feelings and learn to navigate all of the new emotions that come along with being two!

Three year olds who have developed motor skills such as jumping, a pincer grasp, and balancing on one foot, and who is able to speak 4-5 word sentences are ready to graduate to a Level 3 class!

Level 3 (3 - 5 years)

Dive into a world of infinite possibility! With your child's imagination at the helm, our classroom becomes a pirate ship, a distant planet, and anything else he dreams of! Watch his confidence soar as he leads an expedition into the land of pretend and joins his friends playing in a band of exciting new instruments.

Each week in class we combine your preschooler's natural love of music, storytelling, and imaginative play with age-appropriate activities that introduce early music concepts and foster independence, social and emotional skills, language growth, and self-control.

Every Level 3 class weaves around a story that is co-created with the teacher and children. As we sing, move, and dance through the land of our imagination, children have the opportunity to explore new and exciting instruments, discover musical terms, develop ensemble skills, and gain early singing experiences.

Children embarking on the new and exciting adventure of Kindergarten are also ready to dive into a new music class! After the perfect foundation of Kindermusik, graduates will love stretching their wings and voices in one of our group classes!

Family Classes (0-5 years)

What could be better than quality time with your child? Quality time with everyone in the family! From baby to grandpa and everyone in between, everyone is invited to join in as we celebrate the joys of family.

Conveniently scheduled on evenings and weekends, our family classes are a perfect choice for parents who work during the week or have children of different ages.

Family classes are the perfect place for siblings to bond, younger children to learn from their older friends, and for older children to gain mastery of their emerging skills.

With simple adaptations to activities, Family Classes are a joyful music experience that will leave everyone smiling and singing!
