Kindermusik for the Young Child FAQ’s
What is the semester schedule for Young Child?
Young Child is an 8-month program, running from October through May, with a celebration at the beginning of June. In the first year, a child will complete Semesters 1 and 2 (Kindermusik Level 4). In the second year, a child will complete Semesters 3 and 4 (Kindermusik Level 5). By completing semesters back-to-back in this manner, the children’s learning is continuous as new concepts and skills are introduced, reinforced, and built upon.
During the summer months (June through August), children will have the opportunity to join special classes and camps just for their age group that keep the musical fun and learning going all summer long.
Can my child join anytime?
Your child can join at the start of any semester – the first week of October or mid-February. This ensures that each child has the most positive and successful experience. It’s better wait a couple of months to start, rather than spend a couple of months trying to catch up! If your child begins mid year (mid-February), your materials fee and remaining tuition is prorated.
Does my child have to start on Semester 1?
Semester 1 lays the groundwork for the rest of the program. Therefore, starting with Semester 1 is ideal. However, if your child is unable to start in the fall and is at least 5 years old by February, he or she may be able to start the Young Child program on Semester 2. We want each child to succeed and love every moment of their music class, so we’ll schedule a time for your child to meet with the teacher to gauge if Semester 2 would be a good place to start.
My child is 4. Can he/she start now?
We delve into some advanced musical concepts and skills in Young Child, and we want each child to feel successful right from the start. That’s why we ask that children be at least 5 before starting Semester 1. If you are unsure if your child is ready to start, we are happy to meet with you and your child to get a feel for his or her readiness. If we recommend waiting a little time before starting Young Child, we offer many other Kindermusik classes for children under 5 that will satiate his or her love of music while also establishing early musical concepts and introducing the routines of our Kindermusik classroom.
What is the cost of the Young Child program?
A materials fee of $150 covers all of the materials – books, CDS, instruments, and more – for the entire 8-month program.
Tuition for the 8-month program is $600. This can be paid in full or in monthly installments of $75.
Tell me more about the Young Child home materials!

- Song books
- Full-length CDs
- Visuals, manipulatives, and games
- A glockenspiel in Semester 1
- A dulcimer in Semester 3
- A recorder in Semester 4
How long is each class?
Each class is 60-75 minutes long.
Is the parent involved in the class at all?
Yes! At Kindermusik, we know that YOU are your child’s first and best teacher. And, we know that your child loves when you are involved in the things that he or she enjoys. That’s why the last portion of each class is “sharing time,” when we invite parents and other family members in to see what the children are learning and engage them in the fun, too! Plus, each week there will be musical activities that you and your child can do together at home.
Are there any special events or concerts?
Yes! In addition to an extra-special holiday class in December, family and friends are invited to a much-anticipated music party at the end of Semesters 1 and 2. At these events, the children give a little concert of the songs they have learned to play that semester and share the games and dances they have learned with those they love.
